WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
Designing and building successful projects is underpinned by close collaboration, communication, and a keen understanding of the Owner, design team, and construction teams’ technical needs to allow seamless coordination during construction and DBE provides that training for the participants in the most critical subject areas.
The DBE program is an invaluable program for the future leaders of our industry to accelerate and upskill their technical knowledge as well as to forge lasting relationships. I’ve personally witnessed the participants from Thornton Tomasetti gain a vast breadth of real-world and practical knowledge and experience from the DBE program in months that took me years to develop.
The Turner DBE program has helped AKF take learning opportunities for employees to the next level. The programs allow participants to not only learn about the topics of focus but also give participants a chance to learn from other perspectives in the AEC industry. These insights into all roles in the AEC industry allow participants to better understand their role in the great construction team and have more empathy for other key team members.
Turner DBE programs also tackle learning beyond day-to-day tasks and help participants gain confidence, learn to lead more effectively, and how to tackle complex, cross team problems fairly and strategically.
AKF has been a proud partner of the Turner DBE program for over 5 years and has enjoyed the learning and connections participation in this program has allowed.
Industry professionals in the build-environment are rarely exposed to the design and thought processes used by their peers working under a different discipline. The X-Training programs provide a unique holistic perspective of the design and construction of a new project. Starting from the from concept phase through construction administration the major stakeholders and A/E team members share their insights and design-making factors to achieve the project goals. Architects, Engineers, contractors, and owners who would usually work “across the table” from one another have an opportunity to interact in a risk-free environment. Through the DBE programs, we hope that the knowledge gained can directly assist in resolving challenges on the job.
The DBE program provides emerging leaders within the partnering firms an opportunity to develop both technical, leadership and mentoring skills through their programs by connecting cross-discipline teams and providing a platform to share experiences.
I have seen participants from the Vertical Transportation X-Training program assigned to VT related projects and demonstrated an in-depth understanding of the equipment, codes, and construction as related to elevators.
The DBE Community is a pleasure to work with. They are happy to share their professional experiences and resources to maximize the quality of the programs. Off -site tours such as factory visits, construction site walk-throughs and an elevator test tower visit add great interest and value to the programs and increase our engagement with the participants.
