DBE provides real-world case studies accelerate and share knowledge in a way that is so beneficial for the success of future projects. The X- training of each other’s disciplines eliminates the typical misunderstandings that occur during the course of a project and the professional and personal relationships developed during the classes is unique to the DBE program.

Designing and building successful projects is underpinned by close collaboration, communication, and a keen understanding of the Owner, design team, and construction teams’ technical needs to allow seamless coordination during construction and DBE provides that training for the participants in the most critical subject areas.

The Turner DBE program has helped AKF take learning opportunities for employees to the next level. The programs allow participants to not only learn about the topics of focus but also give participants a chance to learn from other perspectives in the AEC industry. These insights into all roles in the AEC industry allow participants to better understand their role in the great construction team and have more empathy for other key team members.

Turner DBE programs also tackle learning beyond day-to-day tasks and help participants gain confidence, learn to lead more effectively, and how to tackle complex, cross team problems fairly and strategically.

Relationships. Forming relationships with other interested parties builds trust, mutually supports individual growth in respective careers and broadens organizational reach in the industry. The Turner Design Build Excellence (DBE) Cross Training program was founded in 2015 on the pillars of a long standing and deep-rooted relationship between Turner and JB&B. That history of mutual respect initiated a conversation between two industry icons about creating a program with the sole vision “to optimize our resources, improving project delivery, enhance and accelerate staff development, encourage greater teamwork, improve communication, and strengthen our relationships through trust and respect.” Watching the DBE program grow from a handful of programs (JB&B University, CSI Walkthroughs, etc.) to the diversity of topics the programs tackle today is a testament not only to the demand of this type of forward-thinking training that the AEC community desperately needs, but also a vote of confidence to future leaders who prioritize the strategy of leading from the front and developing the next generation of future industry icons. No matter how far we have come, and no matter how much we have achieved, the best part of it all is that this is still only the beginning. This program is vested in growth, and with the leadership of Turner at the helm, we will never stop learning and we will never stop growing, and I continue to look forward to the what the future brings the Turner DBE Cross Training program and the many relationships it continues to forge.
